Configuring Scoring
Each series has a scoring configuration that determines how race results are calculated and how standings are computed. This is set when creating a series and can be modified later.
Scoring System
Choose how points are assigned:
| System | Description |
|---|---|
| Low Point | Standard RRS low-point scoring. 1st place = 1 point, 2nd = 2, etc. Lowest total wins. |
| High Point | Inverse scoring. More points for better finishes. Highest total wins. |
| Handicap Points | Points based on handicap-corrected times. |
Timing Mode
| Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| Elapsed Time | Boats are ranked by their raw finish times. No handicap correction. Use for one-design racing. |
| Corrected Time | Finish times are adjusted using a handicap system. Use for mixed-fleet racing. |
When using corrected time, you must also select a handicap system - see Handicap Systems Guide.
Handicap System
If using corrected time scoring, select the handicap system:
- PY (Portsmouth Yardstick) - most common in UK club racing
- IRC, ASY, CYCA, ECHO, NHC, SCHRS, YTC
You'll also need a handicap list with values for each boat class - see Handicap Lists.
Discards
Discards allow sailors to drop their worst result(s) from the series total. Options:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| No Discards | All race results count |
| Every N Races | One discard for every N races sailed (e.g. 1 discard per 4 races) |
| Fixed Number | A set number of discards regardless of races sailed |
| Half Rounded Up Minus One | Discard count = ⌈races/2⌉ - 1 |
See Discards for more detail.
DNC Scoring
How to score boats that Did Not Compete (entered in the series but didn't race):
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Series Entries Plus N | DNC score = total series entries + N |
| Max Race Entries Plus N | DNC score = largest entry count in any single race + N |
See DNC Scoring Options for guidance.
A5 Scoring Rule
| Rule | Description |
|---|---|
| A5.2 | Standard - DNC scores based on series entries |
| A5.3 | Alternative - different DNC calculation method |
Scoring Key
The scoring key defines how Sailboat Racing matches entries across races within a series. This determines whether two race entries are treated as the same competitor for standings purposes.
Matching options: Class, Sail Number, Helm, Crew, Tally, Series Entry ID
See Scoring Key for details.
