Discards
Discards (also called "drops") allow sailors to exclude their worst race result(s) from their series total. This rewards consistent performance and reduces the impact of a single bad day.
Discard Options
| Option | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| No Discards | Every race counts. No results are dropped. | All 10 races count |
| Every N Races | One discard for every N races sailed | With N=4: 4 races = 1 discard, 8 races = 2 discards |
| Fixed Number | A set number of discards, regardless of how many races are sailed | Always discard worst 2 results |
| Half Rounded Up Minus One | Discard count = ⌈races/2⌉ - 1 | 10 races = 4 discards, 7 races = 3 discards |
How Discards Are Applied
- All race results are calculated including circumstances
- The specified number of worst scores are identified
- Those scores are excluded from the nett total
- Standings are ranked by nett total
Discarded scores are still visible in the standings table but are typically shown in brackets or struck through.
DNE (Not Excludable)
The DNE circumstance (Disqualification Not Excludable) cannot be discarded. If a sailor has a DNE, it always counts towards their total, even if it is their worst result.
Configuring Discards
Set the discard policy when configuring scoring for a series. The setting applies to all competitors equally.
