Parent/Child Series

Sailboat Racing supports nesting series in a parent/child hierarchy. This is useful for multi-event competitions where several sub-series roll up into an overall championship.

When to Use Parent/Child Series

Common scenarios: - A club championship that combines results from multiple seasonal series - A traveller series across multiple venues - An annual trophy that aggregates qualifying events

Setting Up a Parent Series

  1. Create the parent series as a normal series
  2. Create each child series separately
  3. On each child series, use Assign Parent Series to link it to the parent

Removing a Parent

If a series no longer belongs under a parent, use Remove Parent Series from the series edit page.

Scoring

A child series counts as a single scoring event in the parent: each entrant's rank within the child series becomes their points for that event. A child series only contributes once it has started (has at least one completed or started race, or a started descendant) - one still entirely scheduled doesn't appear in the parent's standings, race schedule, or discard count.
