DNC Scoring Options
DNC (Did Not Compete) is the score given to a boat that is entered in the series but does not participate in a particular race. The DNC scoring option controls how this penalty score is calculated.
Options
Series Entries Plus N
DNC Score = Total number of entries in the series + N
The penalty is based on the total number of boats entered in the series, plus a configurable offset (usually 1). This means DNC scores increase as more boats enter the series.
Example: If 30 boats are entered in the series and N=1, a DNC scores 31 points.
Max Race Entries Plus N
DNC Score = Largest number of entries in any single race + N
The penalty is based on the highest entry count in any individual race, plus an offset. This is useful when the number of entries varies significantly from race to race.
Example: If the biggest race had 25 entries and N=1, a DNC scores 26 points.
Which Should I Choose?
| Scenario | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Consistent turnout across races | Either option works - they'll produce similar results |
| Variable turnout (some races much bigger) | Max Race Entries Plus N - prevents DNC scores being disproportionately high |
| Strict penalty for not racing | Series Entries Plus N - DNC always scores worse than any finisher |
